  1. A Troubled World

It is very true to say that we nearly all agree that we live in a troubled world. There are many things to concern us; things in our personal lives, things in our employment, things in our home lives and families, things affecting our health not to mention national and international concerns.

It is less likely that we can agree on the cause and the remedy. Since the fall of Adam, man’s condition has not altered. Man is at enmity with God and the pollution of sin is the root of our suffering. As Job 5:7 says “man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward”. Yet many without godly concern seem to thrive as if to say “Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink and be merry” (Luke 12:19). But we of course know the outcome, “But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee.”

Then take comfort believer, trust in Him for good. We have His promise in John 16:33 “”In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

As we approach the New Year and the challenges we may face, let us pray for more of this spirit that He may grant us “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).

  2. The Lord Overrules

Not for nothing do we Christians say “God Willing”. Our God is a sovereign God and He rules over all.

With great regret, we had to cancel today’s service due to Storm Ciara, the road to the chapel being flooded and travelling conditions highly dangerous.

Though many would mock us for prefixing our statements with “God Willing”, most people accept that we are powerless against the force of nature.

May we however look to the One who created nature by speaking it into being at the beginning of time and come to know Him as our Saviour and look to Him for all good.
